রাষ্ট্রপতি মো. সাহাবুদ্দিন বলেছেন, কবি সুফিয়া কামাল রচিত সাহিত্যকর্ম নতুন ও ভবিষ্যৎ প্রজন্মকে গভীর দেশপ্রেমে উদ্বুদ্ধ ও অনুপ্রাণিত করবে। কবির জীবন ও আদর্শ এবং তাঁর কালোত্তীর্ণ সাহিত্যকর্ম নতুন প্রজন্মের প্রেরণার চিরন্তন উৎস হয়ে থাকবে। কবি সুফিয়া কামালের ১১৩তম জন্মবার্ষিকী উপলক্ষ্যে দেওয়া এক বাণীতে তিনি আজ এসব কথা বলেন। বাসস।
আগামীকাল ২০ জুন নারী জাগরণের অন্যতম পথিকৃৎ কবি সুফিয়া কামালের জন্মবার্ষিকী। রাষ্ট্রপতি কবি সুফিয়া কামালের জন্মবার্ষিকীতে তাঁর স্মৃতির প্রতি গভীর শ্রদ্ধা জানিয়ে বলেন, কবি সুফিয়া কামাল ১৯১১ সালের ২০ জুন বরিশালের শায়েস্তাবাদে এক অভিজাত পরিবারে জন্মগ্রহণ করেন। তৎকালে বাঙালি মুসলমান নারীদের লেখাপড়ার সুযোগ একেবারে সীমিত থাকলেও তিনি নিজ চেষ্টায় লেখাপড়া করেন এবং ছোটবেলা থেকেই কবিতাচর্চা শুরু করেন। সুললিত ভাষা ও ব্যঞ্জনাময় ছন্দে তাঁর কবিতায় ফুটে উঠত সাধারণ মানুষের সুখ-দুঃখের পাশাপাশি সমাজের সার্বিক চিত্র। নারী জাগরণের পথিকৃৎ বেগম রোকেয়া ছিলেন তাঁর অনুপ্রেরণার উৎস।
তিনি বলেন, কবির প্রথম কবিতা ‘বাসন্তী’ প্রকাশিত হয় সওগাত পত্রিকায় ১৯২৬ সালে। ১৯৩৮ সালে তাঁর প্রথম কাব্যগ্রন্থ ‘সাঁঝের মায়া’ প্রকাশিত হলে রবীন্দ্রনাথ এ কাব্যের ভূয়সী প্রশংসা করেন, যার ভূমিকা লিখেছিলেন কাজী নজরুল ইসলাম। সুফিয়া কামাল দীর্ঘকাল সাহিত্যচর্চা, সমাজসেবা ও নারী কল্যাণমূলক নানা কর্মকান্ডে জড়িত ছিলেন।
মো. সাহাবুদ্দিন বলেন, কবি সুফিয়া কামাল ছিলেন বাংলাদেশের নারী সমাজের এক অনুকরণীয় উজ্জ্বল ব্যক্তিত্ব। তিনি নারী সমাজকে কুসংস্কার আর অবরোধের বেড়াজাল থেকে মুক্ত করতে আমৃত্যু সংগ্রাম করে গেছেন। তিনি ছিলেন বাংলাদেশ মহিলা পরিষদের প্রতিষ্ঠাতা সভাপতি। দেশের সকল প্রগতিশীল আন্দোলন-সংগ্রামে তিনি সক্রিয়ভাবে যুক্ত ছিলেন। নারীদের সংগঠিত করে মানবতা, অসাম্প্রদায়িকতা, দেশাত্মবোধ ও গণতান্ত্রিক মূল্যবোধ সমুন্নত রাখতে তিনি ছিলেন অগ্রদূত। মুক্তিযুদ্ধের চেতনায় নারী-পুরুষের সমতাপূর্ণ একটি মানবিক সমাজ প্রতিষ্ঠাই ছিল সুফিয়া কামালের জীবনব্যাপী সংগ্রামের প্রধান লক্ষ্য।
রাষ্ট্রপতি মহীয়সী এ নারীর বিদেহী আত্মার মাগফেরাত কামনা করেন।
