৫ আগস্ট প্রকাশিত একটি গবেষণা প্রতিবেদনে বলা হয়, এএনইউ-এর গবেষক দল আমেরিকার মহাকাশ সংস্থা নাসা এবং অনেক আন্তর্জাতিক গবেষকের সহযোগিতায় একটি সুপারনোভার অভূতপূর্ব প্রাথমিক মুহূর্তগুলো বিশদভাবে পর্যবেক্ষণ করেছেন।
২০১৭ সালে নাসার বর্তমানে নিষ্ক্রিয় কেপলার স্পেস টেলিস্কোপে প্রথম এই সুপারনোভা বিষ্ফোরণ ধরা পড়ে।
এএনইউ রিসার্চ স্কুল অফ অ্যাস্ট্রোনমি অ্যান্ড অ্যাস্ট্রোফিজিক্স-এর গবেষণা প্রধান এবং প্রতিবেদনের প্রধান লেখক প্যাট্রিক আর্মস্টং মিডিয়ায় এক বিজ্ঞপ্তিতে বলেন, “এই প্রথম কেউ সুপারনোভা বিষ্ফেরণের মাধ্যমে একটি নক্ষত্রের মৃত্যুর মুহূর্তগুলোর দিকে বিশদভাবে নজর দিতে পেরেছে।” তিনি বলেন, সুপারনোভার প্রাথমিক পর্যায়ের ঘটনাগুলো খুব দ্রুত ঘটে, তাই বেশিরভাগ টেলিস্কোপের পক্ষে এই রহস্য রেকর্ড করা খুব কঠিন।” এখন পর্যন্ত আমাদের কাছে যে তথ্য ছিল তা অসম্পূর্ণ ছিল এবং কেবল মহাকর্ষীর টানে সংকোচন এবং পরবর্তী বিষ্ফোরণ অন্তভূক্ত ছিল। কিন্তু সুপারনোভার একেবারে শুরুতে উজ্জ্বল আলোর বিষ্ফোরণ কখন জানা ছিল না। তিনি জানান, “এটি একটি বড় আবিষ্কার, এতে আমরা অন্যান্য নক্ষত্রগুলোর সুপারনোভা হয়ে ওঠা এবং বিষ্ফোরণের পরবর্তী তথ্য জানতে পারবো।”
যখন কোন নক্ষত্রের সমস্ত জ্বালানি পুড়িয়ে ফেলে জীবনকালের শেষ সীমায় পৌঁছে এবং নক্ষত্রটির অভ্যন্তরীণ মহাকর্ষীর টানে ধসে পড়ে তখন সেটিতে ভয়ংকর বিষ্ফোরণ ঘটে, বিষ্ফোরণের মাধ্যমে নক্ষত্রের মৃত্যুর এই ঘটনাই সুপারনোভা।
বিজ্ঞানীরা তথ্য বিশ্লেষণ করে বলেছেন, সুপারনোভা সৃষ্টিকারী এই নক্ষত্রটি আমাদের সূর্যের চেয়ে ১০০ গুণেরও বেশি বড় একটি হলুদ বর্ণালীর জায়ান্ট তারকা।
